Winter Playground
We got a little snow last night, and the weatherperson says we’re in for a lot more over the next few days. I’m hoping to get out in it to play a bit and take some new pictures, but there’s a lot of writing that has to get done before that can happen. This shot is from late last winter in the playground at Rogers Cove, and is in honour of kids of all ages who just can’t wait to get out and play in the snow. :)
For more wonderful shots of all things red visit Ruby Tuesday. If lots of colour is your thing, then the http://colorcarnivalmeme.blogspot.com/ is definitely for you!

The white of the snow really makes the color stand out. Nice job!
Re: your comment on my RT post, taking good night shots is only partially a function of equipment. You do need to be able to take control of the exposure settings on your camera, so the camera has to be advanced enough to allow that. Happily, most modern digitals — even point and shoot models — have this functionality, unlike their 35mm ancestors. The more control you can exercise over how your camera behaves, the better your shot is likely to turn out. But the other edge of the blade is that once you set your camera to “M” (manual mode) the success of the shot is almost entirely on you. The happy news is that nobody has to see the stuff you shoot as you’re figuring out what went wrong. Your owner’s manual will tell you what your camera will do, if not necessarily how to do it. For that I recommend finding the “Magic Lantern Guide” for your make and model if there’s one available. (I’d be surprised if there wasn’t.)
As someone (I forget who) once put it, “The photograph is made — or not — six inches behind the camera.”

Thanks for the comments and for your help. I went out Sunday night and tried to take some night shots… Froze my little fingers off and ended up trashing every shot I took. I have a Pentax Optio and I used the automatic night settings so I’m not sure if it was the settings or the fact that I was so cold I couldn’t really hold it steady that was at fault. Probably me and my shaky fingers more than anything. I will definitely hunt down the guide you suggest.
Thanks again for your help,
Lena

Aww, thank you so much for the kind words. I am honoured to be added to your bloggfriends. :)
This reminds me of play being put on hold until all the snow clothes are painstakingly layered on.
Yesterday my kids ran out as soon as they discovered the snow. They ran out barefoot and without coats before I could catch them. It was so cold that it didn’t take long before they were back in for boots, snow pants, hats and gloves.
Wonderful colors against a pure white backdrop. I love how this picture holds so many stories.
