The View From The Top
… and points in-between.
On Christmas Day we decided to take a hike and go out behind the University to walk along the river. Instead we ended up climbing the drumlin, which is something I always wanted to do when I was a student there and never seemed to find the time for.
This first one is the view from the parking lot. You can see the path winding it’s way around behind…
And then about halfway up…
Miss Margaret was not a very well behaved critter that day, so as glad as I am that we took her with us, she probably won’t get to go on too many more camera outings. :)
And now for the views from the top…
I have to admit to not making it all the way to the top. I stopped to catch my breath at a bench just beyond the halfway point, and my son took my camera all the way to the top to capture this view:
And this is my contribution from about 3/4 of the way up after I’d had my rest and got bored waiting for him to come back down. :)
One thing I learned this day is how much noise power lines really make. You don’t think about it when they’re masked by the sounds of the city around you. Sitting out in the open on top of a hill, where the lines were so close it felt like you could reach out and touch them, they were crackling, and humming along and you could just hear the energy as it flowed.

You are very welcome! I’ve been wanting to climb that hill for years now. I can’t wait to go back up in the spring and see what it looks like when everything is green. :)
What a great place to hike! But oh my, looks very cold! Love the tour via photos.

It does look cold, but I can appreciate all the beauty. At first I expected you to ski down, but I gather it was just a hike.
Hi Leora,
Yep it was just a hike. There was a flattened out spot with a little mogul-type bump where it looks like you could at least go down on a sled, and the students have been sliding down on cafeteria trays but I’m not that brave. :)
Hi Lena
What a nice thing to do, climbing to this lovely place with such a great view. Hope it wasn’t too cold to be out there. Thnaks for sharing yr pics.

A very interesting series of photos! It is amazing just how loud power lines are in a high wind!

So cold, so white, so beautiful! What a lovely thing to do on Christmas morning.
I well understand a misbehaving critter — 2 weeks ago mine misbehaved and I’ve been on crutches for about 10 days and am wearing a “boot” until a cracked right ankle bone is healed. He and I are going to have some serious obedience training when I can walk normally again. :D

Oh no! I hope you get better soon!
I try to be patient with Maggie… she’s old (14 next month) and her hips are starting to go, so she doesn’t get out into the bush so much anymore. She gets way too excited and wants to chase everything, especially the squirrels. :)
Nice set of photos. But it looks very, very cold – we freeze when the temperature gets down to 10ºC and complain about how cold it is!
Thanks for visiting my blog and your kind comments.
Cheers.
