One Lonely Tulip

I started a new walking program this week, and of course I just had to stuff my camera in my pocket. At the bottom of the courthouse steps there are two big beds of tulips just waiting to bloom, but so far there’s only this one lonely tulip all by itself.

And of course I couldn’t resist a closeup:

I’m glad to see this one, though. It seems that the tulips are really late this year. I went looking in my archives and found pictures from April 26th and May 3rd last year where they were already out in full bloom.

In Full Bloom

The tulips that were waiting to burst open last week are now in full bloom!

I’m overloaded with writing projects this week, so I’m multi-tasking on the memes this morning just in case I don’t get a chance to post anything tomorrow. :)

Rubies on Wheels

Okay, so this more rusty than ruby, but I like it. :)

The building behind is the Ministry of Natural Resources, and when I stepped out from behind the railroad cars, I found more rubies on wheels in the parking area. :)

Sweet Treats

It’s been a couple of days since I posted anything. I don’t think I’ve missed two days in a row since before Christmas, but I ended up with a wicked sinus cold that doesn’t want to go away.

I’m not sure it’s a coincidence that it arrived on the same day as my first foray into a drinking establishment in over ten years. :) I will say, however, that seeing Deric Ruttan live was totally worth breaking my decade-long hermit ways for. And bein’ in a honky-tonk brought back a lot of memories. :)

Anyways, on to the photos… I took these when I was out and about on Saturday specifically for Mary’s Ruby Tuesday so there was no way I was gonna miss posting them.

My Surprise Gift

I’ve been moaning rather repeatedly around the house about not having gotten any Olympic memorabilia this year, and with the start of the games just around the corner almost everything is sold out. What I really wanted was a pair of red mittens but I think that boat has sailed long ago. So anyways, to make a long story short, my son went out to get snacks late Saturday night, and came back with this surprise gift for me.

So now I not only have my little piece of Olympic memorabilia, I also have something nice and colourful to share for Mellow Yellow Monday, Ruby Tuesday, and the Color Carnival.

Early Morning Surprise

I know I’m weird but I’ll take a nice big truck over a shiny red sports car any day. :) My goal is to have one of these babies by the end of this year:

The reflections of the red car on the side make this a perfect shot for Ruby Tuesday! (I really need to get out and take shots of something other than the water and trees around here.)

Through the Red Branches

When I took these, I was mostly interested in the ducks. I didn’t even notice that the branches were a lovely red until I got everything downloaded. :)

Around the Lift Lock

The Lift Lock is one of Peterborough’s main tourist attractions. Not only because it’s a working part of the Trent-Severn waterway, but also because of its architectural heritage.

I’ve driven by, and driven through it hundreds of times but it wasn’t until I actually walked up beside it that I realized how massive it really is…

Here are a few facts about the structure:

And moving up the hill to the road is the tunnel that goes through the locks. It’s a single lane road and can make for some fun times going through in bad weather. Myself, I tend to take the long way around in the winter. :)

I’ve never been through on a boat yet, but plan to change that this summer. There’s a tour boat that runs through daily and I plan for me and my camera to be on it at least once. :)
