Protecting Her Young
Since I’m not quite ready to brave the snow and cold yet this morning, today’s pics come from the handy-dandy archives. :)
I snapped these last summer at the golf course. I learned early on to make sure to always have the camera ready because you never knew what you would see on the sidelines.
As a mother, I know all about wanting to protect your babies, and watching this mother duck was really interesting. She worked really hard the whole time we were there to keep her baby hidden. It wasn’t until they got out into the middle of the pond that we could actually see the baby.
For more cool animal shots, check out Camera Critters. And don’t forget about the Weekend Reflections … there are always some amazing photos there too. :)

I like the second one Lena…and your words. Archives are great aren’t they. That is when they’re organized — mine aren’t.

Thanks John! Archives are supposed to be organized? Truthfully, I was cleaning off the hard drive on my laptop, and found a whole folder of pictures from last summer that I’d forgotten about. :)
Protective mother duck. Following your blog now.

There is something about reeds and weeds in a pond that I find attractive and soothing. I squat down and can remain that way until my knees give out first.
Charming reflections of the reeds and their seed heads. I like it very much.

Your reflection shots are wonderful. You can’t blame her for protecting the cute little ducklings. It is a big bad world out there.

You can’t blame her at all. There was a little red fox that liked to lurk around. We would usually see him making his way across the fairway to the pond on our way back in, but I never managed to get a picture of him.
These are gorgeous [and peaceful] photos! Mother ducks are so clever at finding the best real estate. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks everyone for your awesome comments! You really do make my day. :)
@Carolyn I agree. I could sit and watch the ducks all day if I didn’t have to spend time on this computer. :)
@Martha Yep… I do love my archives. And I’m tryin’ my darndest to stay warm. If only the weather would cooperate. :)
@Ladyinblue You are most welcome. Thanks for asking me. :)
What a good little mama, taking care of her duckling. Wonderful captures!
