Letter To My Self

It’s really amazing what you find when you do some deep cleaning. I spent most of yesterday going through boxes of files in my office/dining room getting ready to transfer it all into real filing cabinets. I found a lot of very interesting stuff in there, including some of my writings from a few years back. It was dated May 24, 2006 and as I re-read it, I realized that what I thought was a blog post was, in fact, a letter to myself. I’m posting it here because it feels like it’s the right time to share it with others, and because even after all these years, it’s a good reminder for me since I still struggle with some of these issues. Please leave a comment and share your thoughts after you read it.

“It doesn’t matter how many times you get back on this merry-go-round of life, the you that is now, in this moment, will never be again. And you owe it to yourself, and to humanity as a whole to make your voice heard.

You also owe it to yourself to do what brings you joy. And if you do anything less than this, if you settle for what outside forces determine you should have, then you are letting down all of humanity by being less than your full potential. But more importantly, you are letting yourself down.

The good news is that we get to change our thoughts, our hearts, and our minds with each moment. Each and every minute of each and every day presents us with a new choice, with the chance to take a “do-over” and begin again. Only this time when we begin we can use all of our life experience that we have accumulated to this point.

Knowing what you don’t want makes it very easy to pinpoint what you DO want — and it is yours — if you will but stand up and proclaim to the world…

I AM my FULL Potential!
I AM Living my Purpose in Love and Joy!
I AM Here, in This World, and I AM Perfect Just the Way I AM!

And when you can do this, it doesn’t matter what others think of you in human terms. If the naysayers laugh at you, it’s their loss. You can laugh with them, knowing that the pure joy of reveling in your uniqueness is so much more than they will ever understand. And you can then begin to write, draw, paint, or dance — whatever it is you desire to do that makes your heart sing.

You will never have to ask yourself again, “Will they laugh at me?” and you will never have to apologize again for being filled with joy and with love because the Universe knows, and the Universe is laughing WITH you because you are living your dream, and you are sharing that dream with the world.

It is such a wonderful feeling to know that those who are uplifted by your creations really do get it. And you, in your uniqueness, are uplifted by their creations as well. And as we all begin to create with a life purpose that is greater than just being rich in a financial sense, then we begin to change the world!”

Little Red Sports Cars

One of our favorite ways to spend family time is to get up early on the weekends and watch F1 together. So it was a real treat last week to be able to actually see an F1 car closeup and in person.

The other car they had was an IRL car from 2005. That’s not a series I watch much other than the Indy 500, which is coming up soon. :)

A New View

I’ve walked past this spot at least twice a week for the last ten years, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen these bushes in full bloom. It never ceases to amaze me what I notice when I’m really paying attention instead of wandering around with my mind on a million other things. :)

Early Morning Surprise

It’s amazing what you can see around here when you get up early enough. In addition to the amazing stillness of the water, which made for great reflections of the Hunter Street Bridge…

you can imagine my surprise when this little critter came swimming by…

He was moving at a pretty fast clip so I wasn’t able to get a very good shot of him, so here’s a cropped version of another shot which was the best one of the bunch for a closeup…

I was really excited to watch him swimming along. It was the first time in my life I’ve ever seen a beaver swimming in the wild. The only place I’ve ever seen them until now was in a zoo.

All in all, a very cool morning. :)

A New Month and a New Commitment

I’ve been really lax in my blogging lately.

If I’m honest with myself I’ve been really lax in just about everything over the past month or so. I could probably justify it if it was just here since this is my personal blog, and the one that’s supposed to be just for fun.
But even the blogs and sites I maintain to earn income from have been ignored lately. And I can’t really put my finger on why that is.

In the old days I would have beat myself up over this and pushed even harder. But it’s a new month, the start of my favorite time of the year,and I’ve decided that it’s okay to accept the fact that my mind and my body needed a rest. I owe a big thanks to Shileen Nixon for pointing out that yes, it really is okay to stop and reboot every once in awhile.

After my bike ride this morning I just sat in front of the window, breathed in the damp morning air and thought about mornings that felt and smelled just like this at the cottage when I was a kid. :)

It’s so nice to have the option of stopping and taking a break when I need it. But break time is over now, and I have a new and more compelling motivation to get my act together and create even more success for myself. (Sorry, that’s all ya get for now — I don’t want to jinx it.)

Anyways, the main purpose of this ramble is just to say that I’m back and re-committed to posting more, both here and on the other sites as well.

The building in this shot is the Bata Library at Trent University — a place where I spent more hours of my life than I care to think about at this point in time. :)
