Taking a break from the writing tonight, I decided to play a little with some photos. We decided that on one wall of the living room we’d like to do a collection of my photos, only turned into black and white. So these are a few of the ones I’m thinking of using.

I AM Grateful For the Mornings

I am so grateful for early mornings… the peace and quiet of the house and the street. Even the seagulls sleep in the morning so when I go walking by the lake it’s quiet there too.

Lately my mornings have been spent either in front of the computer or at the gym. So these are old pictures, and I’m posting them not only because I love the peacefulness of the early morning but to remind me that I need to get out and take some new pictures soon. Maybe this weekend. :)

So… it’s November and for many people that means it’s National Novel Writing Month. I’m skipping the festivities this year in favor of becoming a “NaNo Rebel.” Instead of focusing on writing fiction, I’m writing 50,000 words of content for this site and The Acorn Stash instead.

I’m also participating in NaBloPoMo again this month. I sure can’t do any worse than last month. October was horrible for getting any writing done, and I’m excited to be more in focus already this month. :)

One of the things I do hope to do this month is get out and take more pictures. I’ve been neglecting my camera of late and I’m feeling really guilty about it.

What’s nice right now is that there’s still some colour out there to be found if you go looking for it. There’s a little tiny park just up the street from me that has awesome flower gardens, and there are still some awesome flowers hanging on ’til the last minute.

Morning Solitude

There are times when no words are necessary. Early morning stillness fills my soul with peace. No voices, no noises, just the breeze, the water, and me. The bench beckons and I sit in stillness, at one with the world around me. I know that I can face whatever the day brings as long as I hold the peace of the morning within my heart.

Sharing Space with the Geese

At the zoo there’s this path that goes down to the river and at the bottom of it, there’s a little island with picnic tables that’s a really peaceful spot to end your walk. Unless of course you have to share it with all the geese, and ducks, and seagulls. Then it’s noisy as all getout and not so peaceful at all.

I’m not sure why they all tend to congregate in the one spot, but it was nice that they did, because all we had to do was walk over to the other side and it was nice and peaceful again.

Calm and Soothing

It’s been a frustrating day. I almost skipped my walk (I know… it would be really bad to skip on the 2nd day) but after struggling to find the right words all day, I finally gave up and went in search of some calming energy. I found it by the river, with the evening sky, the calm water, and the smooth swimming style of the local wildlife.

One Lonely Tulip

I started a new walking program this week, and of course I just had to stuff my camera in my pocket. At the bottom of the courthouse steps there are two big beds of tulips just waiting to bloom, but so far there’s only this one lonely tulip all by itself.

And of course I couldn’t resist a closeup:

I’m glad to see this one, though. It seems that the tulips are really late this year. I went looking in my archives and found pictures from April 26th and May 3rd last year where they were already out in full bloom.

First Bike Ride of the Season

Last year my first bike ride of the season was also my last. A couple of weeks later I was in the cardiologist’s office talking angioplasty. I never did have the second stent put it, and I’m determined to keep it that way.

So today, the first double-digit day of the season, my son and I decided to try again to get my cycling stamina up. We had originally planned to ride all the way to the university, but I wimped out about halfway there so we turned around and came home. You can read more about the actual ride and why I’m putting myself through this on my fitness blog. (There’s a picture of me and my bike there too if you really wanna see.)

Of course, we had to stop and take a few pictures along the way too. I’m pretty sure my son was getting fed up with me hollering at him to stop every time I wanted to snap some shots. He tells me he’s going on a nice long ride by himself tomorrow!

A Scenic Ride

Sharing the Day with the Ducks

I can’t believe that it’s been 2 months since the last time I posted here, or went out with my camera. It’s no wonder that by the end of today, after a day filled with working on taxes, that I felt like I just had that need to work off some restless energy.

At first, I was going to just do a few rounds of wii boxing to get my frustrations out, but of course the batteries in the remote were dead and there weren’t any replacements to be found. So instead I threw on my running shoes and a sweater and headed outside with the camera.

I don’t know what it is about fresh air, but I wasn’t outside five minutes and already I felt better. Even though it was kinda grey and chilly, I still enjoyed my hour outside, communing with nature and sharing my space with the ducks. Or maybe that should be the ducks were sharing their space with me. :)

Frosty Morning
